چکیده

The MIDAS (Multi-Instrument Data Analysis System) algorithm performs a 4dimensional mathematical inversion. It is designed to assimilate a number of different measurement techniques, thus allowing the spatial and temporal factors to be accounted for in the inversion. In this study ionospheric data have been collected together from a number of observations in Europe. The MIDAS program incorporates these data into a single 4-D inversion and produces electron concentration maps. CHAMP occultations over Europe have been identified for comparison purposes and the data have been inverted using a newly developed technique. First results indicate excellent agreement between the specification of the ionospheric electron concentration using MIDAS and that calculated from CHAMP.

Combining Radio Occultation Measurements with Other Instruments to Map the Ionospheric Electron Concentration

The Multi-Instrument Data Analysis System (MIDAS) algorithm is a spatial and temporal imaging program for the atmosphere and ionosphere. This analysis algorithm can routinely use dual-frequency ground-based observations from the GPS satellites to produce four-dimensional images of electron concentration over very large geographical regions (potentially globally). MIDAS also has the facility to ...

Observation of vertical electron density profile in inospheric E-layer during Indian-Ocean earthquake on December 2004 using CHAMP satellite

This paper describes the observation and analysis of vertical electron density before major earthquake above the Sumatra-Malaysia region during Indian Ocean major earthquake in 2004 in Aceh, Sumatra. The electron density profile in E-layer of ionosphere a few days before earthquake and a few hours after earthquake have been observed using the data from the CHAMP satellite. The data obtained fro...

Creating Maps of Ionospheric Electron Density to Support Communication, Surveillance and Navigation Systems

Space based GPS measurements onboard Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites provide a uniquepossibility for exploring the ionosphere on a global scale. Both the radio occultation measurements in thelimb sounding mode and the navigation measurements using a zenith viewing GPS antenna provide theTotal Electron Content (TEC) along numerous ray paths. TEC may effectively be used for re...

GPS radio occultation measurements of the ionosphere from CHAMP: Early results

[1] The paper deals with initial analyzes of radio occultation measurements of the ionosphere carried out on board the CHAMP satellite since 11 April 2001. The accuracy of the operationally retrieved electron density profiles has been estimated by comparing with independent measurements. The derived ionospheric key parameters such as f0F2 and hmF2 agree with a standard deviation of 18 and 13%, ...

Sounding of the topside ionosphere/plasmasphere based on GPS measurements from CHAMP: Initial results

[1] Beside the GPS radio occultation measurements of the troposphere and ionosphere, the CHAMP satellite tracks presently up to 8 GPS satellites simultaneously for navigation. The received dual frequency GPS signals provide valuable information on the ionization state of the topside ionosphere and plasmasphere. This paper briefly describes a new developed model assisted technique to improve the...
